The 5th Bishop of Mukono Diocese, Rt. Rev. Enos Kitto Kagodo, has urged the Ugandan government to restore and prioritize cooperatives, emphasizing their importance in improving the lives of Ugandans. Bishop Kagodo made the remarks on Tuesday, 20th May 2025 at St.philip & Andrew’s Cathedral – Mukono while presiding over the annual general meeting of MUDI SACCO, the official savings and credit cooperative of Mukono Diocese.
He stressed that in today’s Uganda, it is wiser for one to be part of a cooperative society and noted that saving and borrowing is not a sign of poverty or weakness, but rather a demonstration of intellectual wealth. He encouraged the general public to take saving seriously as a strategy for growth and stability. Mr. Katerega, the Treasurer of MUDI SACCO, who also sits on the general board, revealed the SACCO’s significant financial progress, growing from UGX 16 million to UGX 20 million. He invited all current and prospective members to come on board and embrace the culture of saving. He thanked the Bishop, the board members, management, and all members for contributing to the SACCO’s continued success.
Meanwhile, CPA Samuel Mankati Aggrey, the Vice Chairperson of the Supervisory Committee, gave an overview of the SACCO’s milestones. He highlighted achievements like acquiring land. He assured members that their savings are in safe hands and that all funds are properly managed. He further encouraged more saving, reminding members that their borrowing potential will increase once they build a strong saving culture.
The meeting was attended by active SACCO members and savers from various branches, including Kangulumira, Mukono, and Lugazi. Together, they committed to depositing UGX 20,000 each into the SACCO’s personal saving account and were delighted to learn that the SACCO had generated UGX 20 million in profits.
