Mukono Diocese is a Faith Based Organization and an integral part of the Province of the Church Of Uganda Anglican. Its Secretariat is located in the heart of Mukono Municipality18 km from Kampala on the Kampala-Jinja Road. The Diocese was established on the 2nd December 1984. It was curved out of the greater Namirembe Diocese. At present, it covers the political districts of Kayunga, Mukono, Buikwe and Buvuma Islands. It is comprised of the following archdeaconries, Ndeeba, Ngogwe, Nakibizzi, Seeta, Bukoba, Kangulumira, Lugazi and Cathedral deanery. The Diocese has 8 Archdeaconries, 64 Parishes, 611 Churches, 53, Chapels, 110 Priests in active service these include those in parishes, schools and other Church institutions, 620 Lay Leaders and one presiding Bishop, The Rt. Rev. James William Ssebaggala. The Diocese has a population density of 1,029,400 people and about 400,000 Christians of the Anglican faith (National Census Report – 2014). The Diocese has a wealth of over 2,000 Hectares of land.
The Diocese was incorporated by law in 1984 as a faith-based Organization. It can sue and also be sued in its own name. It is mandated to inspire and enhance the preaching and spreading the gospel while harmonizing such divinity with community development.
Mukono Diocese has a wealth of a competent and vibrant team of managers enriched with established policies, systems and structures at all levels formulated to enhance accountability and service delivery.
The structures and processes established include: The Diocesan Synod, Diocesan Council, Secretariat, Board of Directors, Archdeaconry, Parish Councils and Grass root church committees reflecting levels of the Diocesan Organogram.
The Lord Bishop is the Chief Diocesan Executive Officer assisted by other functionaries that include: the Diocesan Secretary, Treasurer, Human Resource Officer, Planning and Development Officer, Education Officer, Youth Officer, Mission Coordinator, Child Development Officer, Land and Estates Officer, Women and Men Development Coordinators, Communication Officer, Legal Officer, Health Coordinator, Music Coordinator.
The above personnel form the basis for Research, Planning, Organization, Mobilization, Coordination, Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation of Performance in the Diocese.
An independent External Audit is annually administered to the Diocese to enhance efficiency, effectiveness and value for money audits.
